Locating Adoption Records Database now Accessible to All - 17/1/22
CoramBAAF is pleased to announce that our Locating Adoption Records database is again fully accessible to adoption agencies, members of the public and researchers.
 
Norcap Contact Register now Held by Family Action - 26/6/20
Family Action has announced that all services previously delivered by Adoption Services for Adults, including the management of the Norcap Contact Register, transferred to Family Action on 3 April 2020.
 
New Website for Adopted and Care Experienced People Searching for Information about their Origins - 25/6/20
Family Action has launched Family Connect, a new website designed to help adopted people, and people who have been in care, learn about their legal rights around accessing their birth and care records.
 
Access to the Locating Adoption Records Database - 27/8/18
The Locating Adoption Records database is a unique resource that can be used to find out where adoption records might be held. CoramBAAF's member agencies have direct access to the database search while individuals who are searching for information for their own use can request that a database search is conducted on their behalf.
 
New Holder of the NORCAP Contact Register - 27/7/16
The NORCAP Contact Register has been transferred to Adoption Services for Adults, an Adoption Support Agency providing searching, tracing and intermediary services. Adoption Services for Adults is now able to verify whether an adopted person or birth relative had registered on the NORCAP Contact Register before NORCAP stopped trading on 14 January 2013.
 
New Regulations Extend Provision of Intermediary Services - 9/11/15

On 10th November 2015 new regulations come into force to extend the provision of intermediary services to facilitate contact between ‘persons with a prescribed relationship’ and the birth relatives of a person adopted before 30th December 2005.

 
Update - AAA-NORCAP Contact Register - 22/10/15
When AAA-NORCAP went into administration in Feb 2013, BAAF became Guardians of the electronic data held on the NORCAP Contact Register (NCR). Following the sudden closure of BAAF on 31st July 2015 the NCR is now in the hands of the Administrators (Smith and Williamson) who are now responsible for making a decision about the NCR’s future.

Disclosure of the Birth Name of an Adopted Person Under New Regulations - 22/12/14

Welsh Adoption Information and Intermediary Services Guidance Amended - 18/12/14
The Welsh Government has removed the reference to 'non-identifying' information from the Adoption Information and Intermediary Services (Pre-Commencement Adoptions) (Wales) Regulations 2005 Guidance.

Keeping Our Databases Up-to-date - 7/7/14

We are now beginning the process of updating all of the data held on the databases searchable through the Adoption Search Reunion website. This is a major exercise which involves making contact with all the agencies, local authorities and records offices included on the databases via email or phone calls.

 
Consultation on Intermediary Services for Descendants and Relatives of Adopted People - 14/4/14
The Department for Education (DfE) has launched a consultation on proposals to extend access to intermediary services to children and grandchildren of adults adopted before 30 December 2005 and to others with a prescribed relationship to the adopted person.

BAAF and the Descendants of Deceased Adopted Persons (DAP) Group are continuing to press for a change in the law to enable descendants of deceased adopted people to have the same rights as other relatives to access an intermediary service in order to obtain information about their origins.

BAAF and the Descendants of Deceased Adopted Persons (DAP) Group are pleased to announce that Baroness Sally Hamwee of Richmond on Thames has tabled an amendment in the forthcoming House of Lords debate on the Children and Families Bill 2013 in relation to the information needs of descendants of deceased adopted people, to enable them to access intermediary services.

ITV1's award winning series, Long Lost Family, is back on television with more stories of searches for missing family members. These images of emotional reunions can prompt viewers to think about their own families and to decide to start their own searches, and as a result many agencies will see an increase in enquiries at this time.
 
Demise of NORCAP Register - 11/7/13
As previously announced, AAA-NORCAP's Contact Register is no longer in operation. BAAF is now looking after the electronic data held on NORCAP’s Contact Register, until further discussions and decisions can be made about its future, but the Contact Register is not currently active.
 
AAA-NORCAP closes - 14/2/13
BAAF is sorry to learn that AAA-NORCAP has gone into administration and ceased trading after many years of supporting and providing services to adoption adults, birth relatives and others affected by adoption.
 
Post adoption support services survey report published - 22/1/13
BAAF has published the findings of a survey of agencies in England and Wales who provide post adoption support services to adopted adults and birth relatives.
 
Adoption Contact Register Changes in England and Wales - 15/10/12
As of 15th October 2012, the General Register Office for England and Wales has a new policy regarding the Adoption Contact Register. This allows birth relatives who are seeking to apply for entry onto Part 2 of the register to make an application based on declaration only, instead of having to provide documentary evidence of their relationship to an adopted person.

BBC3 are making a documentary which will look at the ways in which tracing of birth relatives has been affected by the advent of Facebook and other social media and are looking for people who'd like to be involved in the project.
